how-to make an herbal infusion

More potent than a tea in a bag herbal infusions are an easy way to enjoy the medicinal qualities of plants without investing a lot of effort.

They are extremely nourishing, rejuvenating and restorative and can be consumed as a daily ritual.

If you are new to this experience I recommend you start with one plant that you would like to get to know better. Experiment for at least 30 days before moving on to another plant or a formula.

There are two ways to make an infusion -hot or cold. Hot infusions are best for dried flowers, leaves and roots, while cold infusions are better for fresh herbs or aromatic plants like rosebuds or lavender.

Hot herbal infusion

  1. Scoop about 3 tablespoons of herbs into a limited glass jar, cover them with hot water, and then allowed to steep for up to 8 hours. The longer the herb steep, the stronger your infusion will be.

  2. Strained the herbs when you’re ready to drink.

Cold, herbal infusion

  1. Scoop about 3 tablespoons of herbs into a liter glass jar or into a Muslim tea bag or cheese cloth bag.

  2. Fill the jar with cold water and let it steep overnight.

  3. Strain the herbs when you’re ready to drink. Most infusions will keep in the refrigerator for about a week.
