Melon aqua fresca
The perfect drink for the heat wave we’re having this week. Both being sweet and cooling which balances heat (Fire element/Pitta Dosha) in our bodies. Coconut is natures Gatorade filled with electrolytes essential for maintaining bodily fluid balance. Cantaloupe is rich in the Water element, making it a good choice for hydration during hot weather. Other foods, rich in water content are cucumbers, grapes, stone fruits, celery, lettuces, zucchini and melons. Which are good to incorporate into your diet during the summertime.
I made this agua fresca using fresh coconut milk that I made using the meat of one coconut blended with 2 cups of filtered water (but you can add more water if you want the milk thinner).
Ingredients
1 organic cantaloupe ( remove the seeds and skin, cut into pieces)
3 cups filtered water
1/2 cup fresh coconut milk
Fresh herbs for garnish, mint, basil are good options
*If you want to make it sweeter, you can add a little simple syrup or raw cane sugar
Add cantaloupe, water and coconut milk in a blender. Blend till smooth. Serve chilled with garnish. Best enjoyed fresh.
